Roland Mouret Decides To Axe His Menswear Label

Roland Mouret, the French fashion designer known for creating the most coveted of womenswear collections, has decided to axe his eponymous menswear brand MR.

This will allow him to focus on the launch of three new women’s wear categories that are slated to hit the market next year, including bridal wear, footwear and a cocktail collection.

The designer’s firm stated that it has resolved to realign its focus on further expanding its thriving womenswear business and the menswear brand has been shelved with immediate effect.

The menswear brand was introduced by the designer for the first time in Paris in January 2010, and it is now being sold at Browns, Selfridges, Mr Porter and Harrods.

Victoria Beckham, Duchess Catherine and Cameron Diaz are all included in the fan list of the brand. However, Roland believes that men cannot be pushed to learn about fashion.

7 leather mega clusters await plan panel’s nod

The seven mega clusters for leather, announced in Budget 2011-12, will entail a total investment of Rs 875 crore or Rs 125 crore each and are expected to be operational in two years. It is estimated that once operational, these mega clusters will help to double leather exports, including footwear, garments and accessories, from India in five years from $ 3.5 billion now.

Department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) has made its initial proposals to the Planning Commission for an in-principle approval and hopes to finalise the scheme by middle of this year. The seven mega clusters are expected to come up in UP, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana and Bihar.

According to sources in DIPP, these mega clusters will be greenfield projects being executed by a special purpose vehicle formed for the purpose. “This is a huge investment and we are pitching it in place of leather parks as they had failed to take off. We hope to finalise the scheme by the middle of this year after which it will be open to discussions with industry stakeholders,” sources in DIPP told Financial Chronicle.

While DIPP is still finalising the details on the subsidy from government and the contribution of private players, it is learnt that the Leather Export Promotion Council has proposed 80 per cent subsidy from government, including the land.

Currently, India is the second largest manufacturer of leather footwear behind China but ahead of Brazil. However, only one-sixth of it is being exported because of lack of capacity.

The major markets for Indian leather products are Germany with a share of 14.4 per cent, UK (13.4 per cent), Italy (11.7 per cent), USA (8.7 per cent) Hong Kong (7.35 per cent), France (7.5 per cent), Spain (6.4 per cent), Netherlands (4 per cent), Belgium (1.9 per cent), UAE (2.03 per cent) and Australia (1.58 per cent). These 11 countries together accounts for nearly 79.2 per cent of India’s total leather products export.

But pulling off a Victoria Beckham just ain’t that easy folks. It is so very important to pick out the perfect leather pants for your body type. There are a whole plethora of creations available to choose from. The point is to pick out one that suits you.

If you are choosing a biker pant for style purposes only, you could practically use anyone. Most of them are padded in thick leather and come with quite a few metallic embellishments. However, if you are using them for riding purposes, be very careful about the type you choose. It should be soft and comfortable against you skin. The leather should be thick enough to protect you from abrasions and falls.

The latest fad! Everyone who is anyone seems to be wearing skinny leather pants. Do remember though that skinny leather pants are made for exactly those people – skinny that is! Women with heavy hips or thighs should avoid these pants completely. Remember to pair them up with stilettos or nice boots.

Often confused with skinny leather pants, these are a different variety all together. These babies fit like a second skin molding themselves to every dent and bump of your body. There is absolutely no space between the skin and the fabric. Putting them on and taking them off could take a while but the overall effect – if you have the body to carry it off – is absolutely fantastic!

The traditional black ones that are not too tight but flow down in a straight cut remain the eternal favorite. They look stupendous and are quite attractive. Pick out a snug pair for yourself that is not too tight but perfectly comfortable.

Colored leather pants are a great way to add a splash of color to your wardrobe. Reds, blues, greens – the
